MDC Environmental Services provides Lakewood residents with a 95-gallon waste container, specifically designed to accommodate the needs of larger families and households that generate higher volumes of waste. 65-gallon containers are available, as well as replacement or additional totes, available for a fee. Any additional fees will be billed from the city.

Residential Recycling in Lakewood
MDC recycling service in Lakewood is unlimited. Each household is supplied with a 65-gallon recycling toter, specifically designed to handle various recyclable materials efficiently. It is important to note that trash cans are not an acceptable alternative for storing or setting out recycling. Using the designated toter ensures proper collection and processing, supporting the community's commitment to sustainable practices.
Recyclables should be placed loose in the container. They should not be bagged and no plastic bags should be included in the recycling tote. Cardboard should be broken down to 3 ft. x 3 ft. or smaller and bundled if excessive. Do not cram other items into cardboard boxes.

Yard Waste Pickup in the Village of Lakewood
Seasonal collection of yard waste is between April 1st and the first week of December (season permitting).
- April, October - November, 1st week of December: unlimited collection
- May-September: limit of 5 bags per household per week
Grass cuttings and leaves must be placed in kraft paper bags. Bags are limited to a maximum weight of 50 pounds. Biodegradable brown paper bags are the preferred containers for yard waste; however, we will also collect yard waste from garbage cans that you supply that are clearly marked on the side (visible from 20ʼ) with a large “X” (use paint, duct tape or a similar durable material).
Brush and branches must be cut to no more than 4 feet in length and securely bundled with biodegradable rope or twine. Bundles must not exceed two feet in diameter and 50 pounds in weight. Individual branches must not be greater than 3” in diameter.
Bulky Item Collection in Lakewood
One bulk item (under 50 pounds) per week will be collected on your regularly scheduled collection day at no charge. Bulk items exceeding 50 pounds will require an additional fee. Additional bulk items in a given week are $30 per item. Contact us to schedule a collection.
Bulk items include: boxes, barrels, crates, furniture, and similar items that do not fit into a proper container and can be collected/lifted by one driver without assistance. Exceptions include items which are banned from direct disposal into a landfill (appliances, tires, car batteries, TV’s, electronic waste). No construction waste accepted.
Oversized and overweight items will be collected but will require an additional fee. Oversized/overweight items are any single large or extra heavy item that will require the resident to schedule a special pick-up. An example of an oversized item is a piano, hot tub or any item that requires two or more people to lift. A per item fee of will apply for each oversized item.
