CITY OF MCHENRY RESIDENTIAL SERVICES

MDC Environmental Services is proud to serve the City of McHenry, Heart of the Fox River. Please see below for information and regulations regarding curbside trash pickup in the City of McHenry.

REFUSE, RECYCLING AND YARD WASTE SERVICES:

BAG SERVICE

All non-recyclable solid waste may be placed in MDC Environmental Services 30-gallon plastic bags. These bags may be purchased at Jewel, Ace Hardware, Meijer, Riverside Shop N Go, Angeloʼs Fresh Market and City Hall in McHenry.

TOTE SERVICE

We also provide 95-gallon tote service. The service is billed on a quarterely basis. Please call our office at (815) 568-7274 to arrange for this service. All trash must be contained inside the tote with lid closed. Anything outside of tote (other than recycling) is an additional charge.

RECYCLING

We recycle on the same day as your refuse pickup. We provide a 35 gallon recycle tote for each household in the City of McHenry. Additional bins may be used for overflow. You also have the option of ordering a 65 gallon recycle tote for a one-time charge of $10.00. The totes are the property of MDC Environmental Services and not to be removed from the household by the customer.

Recyclable items are as follows and need not be separated:

# Chipboard (Cereal Boxes, Pop Cases)

# Clean, No Waxed Paper

# Magazines, Catalogs, Telephone Books

# Office Paper, Junk Mail, School Paper

# Paper Grocery Bags

# Corrugated Cardboard (cut down into 2 ft x 2 ft squares and bundled)

# Plastic Items Coded 1-7

# Glass Bottles & Jars (Clear, Green & Brown)

# Metal (Aluminum & Tin Cans)

RINSE ALL JARS, BOTTLES AND CANS — REMOVE TOPS FROM PLASTIC AND GLASS

ITEMS WE DO NOT RECYCLE: Tissue, aluminum foil, plastic bags, ceramic, china, light bulbs Styrofoam or 6-pack rings. If you have a question as to if an item is recyclable, please contact our office.

HOLIDAY SERVICE

There is no collection on New Yearʼs Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or whenever disposal facility is closed. If your pickup falls on or after these holidays, and the holiday falls within the workweek, collection will be 1 day later.

KINDLY HAVE YOUR REFUSE AND RECYCLABLES AT THE CURB BY 7:00AM ON THE DAY OF PICKUP.

YARD WASTE

Curbside Collection

Yard waste may be placed in 30-gallon Kraft (biodegradable) paper bags, bundles* or in open 30-gallon maximum garbage cans. Yard waste in plastic bags cannot be picked up. Each bag, bundle or can must be affixed with a yard waste sticker. These stickers are available at Jewel, Ace Hardware, Meijer, Sullivan Food, Riverside Stop and Go, Angeloʼs Fresh Market and City Hall.

Drop Off

Yard waste may also be dropped off on Saturdays from April 1 – December 1 at Knox Park in McHenry. Hours of operation are 7:00am – 12:00pm. Vehicles used to deliver yard waste must have a current City of McHenry Vehicle sticker affixed and displayed. Yard waste must be contained in the same manner as for curbside collection

* Branches must be no larger than 3- inches in diameter, no longer than 4 feet in length and bundled with biodegradable string or twine. Bundles should not exceed 2 ft in diameter or 4 ft in length.
